Days 239, 240, 241 - Snowing in Calgary
Fortunately my friend Kim has some winter clothes to lend me while I'm here - clothes that I have made for her in past years such as the infamous cavelady sweater that I am wearing above. It is felted wool and has many holes in it. It is a bit punk rock to be prancing around the dance studio in but at least I am warm. My shoes are leaking. Back home in Vancouver tomorrow.
PS: Paypal is working again! Super! Surprise! it up! (Tuesday the 4th is the last day for round 4)

Day 238 - paypal problems
If you've tried to get in on this round of Super! Surprise! in the past couple of days you have probably discovered that paypal won't let you make the purchase. Sorry!! I will hopefully have it sorted out very soon! Please email me if you are interested in discussing alternative methods of payment. (makeshift@huntandgather.ca)

Days 235, 236, 237
This week I'll be in Calgary (look very carefully to see the world famous Saddle Dome in the background) working on costume designs for an upcoming dance production called WiseApple. The show, choreographed by Kim Cooper, is/will be based on early surrealist silent movies.
A quick stop at my sister's place in the Okanagan Valley on the way.

Days 230 & 231
I had some queries about what was on my head 2 days ago so I thought I'd sport them for you today - my sunglasses, or more exactly, sungoggles. On another note, isn't it great that my new spring boots go with everything? I mean, I wouldn't say they match everything but they kind of work in a weird way, no? Plus I automatically feel springy in them. Thanks for all your comments about them, by the way.

Days 219 & 220
Well everyone, can you believe it? It's a new pair of shoes. An actual, wearable pair of shoes. My new spring boots! The colour is a bit wild maybe that's just what I need for spring. I've included some pictures of stages along the way. The beginning stages are missing because I didn't think to start documenting the process until about halfway through.
Yesterday I spent the day doing research at the Japanese Canadian National Museum in Burnaby. I will be showing work in their 10 year anniversary exhibition in September and was looking for inspiration in their collection of photographs, documents and artifacts of Japanese Canadian history. The most exciting thing for me to look at was this personalized pattern book dating from 1942 - 45! But there were so many other really interesting things in the way of textiles, clothing and personal accoutrements.

Day 217
A few months ago my friend Claudia gave me a felt hood so that I could make a hat. You shape it by steaming it to either stretch or shrink it. In the end I finally came up with this fairly simple design with detachable 'visor'. It has two snaps at the back and I saved some of the felt so that I could potentially snap other shapes to it too. The grey feather is stitched to the visor part. Check out Claudia's website to see her designs at claudiaschulz.com

Days 215 (Snap Shop) & 216
Here are some photos from yesterday's Snap Shop: modular accessory workshop. It was really fun. Everyone was very focused and made strange and interesting things. A big thank you to Holly Ward for arranging this to happen inside her Geodesic Dome!
