Day 271, 272 & 273

If it seems like you're seeing the same clothes over and over again this week it's because you are. I only brought a limited selection of "winter" clothes with me to Calgary thinking (recklessly) that late May and early June would be warm-ish here. They say that next week will be warmer but in the meantime I'll keep wearing all my jackets to work.

I do have new shoes though, that's something. I just finished them yesterday. I made them using the same technique as the yellow ones (foam with a line cut all the way around and the leather glued in the cut). I will walk to work in them today to test them. Wish me luck.

Day 269 - Weather

Somehow, every time I come to Calgary, Alberta I'm fooled into believing that it won't snow while I'm here. Here it is, almost June, and there's snow in the forecast for this weekend. I'll probably be so busy while I'm here that I won't even notice. That's the logic I'm trying to use on myself at least. I'm here to continue working on costumes for the dance show (Wiseapple) that I was here working on about a month ago. I'm staying for a couple of weeks so I'll try to include some rehearsal photos at some point. Maybe even tomorrow.

Day 260 - Super! Surprise! pick up day!

It's the first day of Round 4 Super! Surprise! pick ups at Makeshift today! Come by between 4 and 7pm to collect your "goods". I will also be there on Thursday from 4 to 7pm and Saturday from 1 to 5pm. See you soon!

Quick and easy new shoes! I made these by incorporating a technique for making christmas ornaments that my friend Etsuko in Japan taught me. She is a quilter and to make the ornaments you start with a foam ball and draw your design on it. You then cut the line out with an exacto and take a piece of fabric that is about the same size and with glue on it, squeeze it into the cut line. In the end you have a kind of quilted looking ball. So for these shoes, I cut a line with an exacto knife into the (fake woodgrain) foam and the sqeezed the leather (with glue on it) into the incision. So easy! I'm hoping to make a pair of running shoes using the same technique.

Day 247 - new pants

I made a new pair of pants yesterday. The funny part is that I forgot that I used the same fabric to line my spring boots so it kind of looks like my pants are growing out of my leafy boots. I'm ok with it. I'm growing a new fondness for certain kinds of matchy-matching.

By the way, I'm extending Super! Surprise! until the end of today since Paypal wasn't working for some people yesterday. I guess there are still issues. Feel free to email me to work out an alternative payment method if it's not working for you. But don't worry, if you paid with Paypal and received a confirmation, everything is a-ok. It is still working for most people.
